APPROXIMATE PLANTING DENSITY AND DISTANCE
- In the north the planting distance varies between 1.5 and 2 m between each vine.
- In the Tinajo area,, it is approximately 1,5 m.
- In the Geria area the planting distance can be up to 4m.
This difference in the planting distance is due to the crop pattern used
In the Geria area the hole system is used due to the thickness of the lapilli or picón layer, which in some areas can be up to 3 meters. Thus, the planting density is lower than on the rest of the island.
In the Tinajo and Haría area, the trench system is used, with trenches either on the perimeter or throughout the plot. The lapilli layer in this area is thinner, especially in Haría, where it is scarce in some areas. The main area in Haría is Yé – Lajares.
Note: In chapter II, article 6, section 5.1 of the regulation, there is more information regarding planting density, based on the type of pruning used.
